The Kuomintang Government of President Ma Ying-jeou plans to make Taiwan’s manufacturing sector available to Chinese investment. Since taking office in May, Ying-jeou has modified or eliminated 32 policies, which restrict trade, investment and contact with China. Now Chen Tain-jy, chairman of Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development, says the island state plans to scrap or relax another 67 restrictive policies by the year's end. The most important will open Taiwan's "productive sectors" to investment by Chinese companies, and relax restrictions on Taiwanese companies investing in China, so they can shift most of their manufacturing jobs to the mainland.
